Out & About in Stroud
Stroud is a market town in the Five Valleys of Gloucestershire, tucked into the edge of the Cotswolds between Cheltenham and Bath. It rewards a bit of exploring.
On Saturday mornings, the town's famous Stroud Farmers' Market sets up just up the road, it is one of the best in the country, and the perfect way to start the day before breakfast with us.
The Sub Rooms, Stroud's much-loved live music and arts venue, is a very short walk from the restaurant, so if you've got tickets for a show, we're a natural stop for dinner beforehand.
Beyond the market square, Stroud's independent shops, galleries and the Museum in the Park are all worth losing an afternoon to, while the old canal towpath and the open ridge of Selsley Common offer some of the finest walking views in the valleys.
A little further out, the Slad Valley, immortalised by Laurie Lee in 'Cider with Rosie', is home to our sister venue - The Woolpack Inn - Slad, it makes for a beautiful detour, and with the train station two minutes from our door, Stroud is every bit as easy to reach for the day as it is to stay for the evening.
